A non-US creator’s LLC generally does not report AdSense, brand-deal, or unrelated affiliate revenue on Form 5472. It reports qualifying transactions with the foreign owner and other foreign related parties: cash draws, capital top-ups, loans, reimbursements, personally paid gear or software, and payments to an owner-controlled editing company.
A creator business produces several records for the same economic activity. YouTube shows earnings; AdSense shows payment and withholding details; the bank shows a net deposit; a manager may deduct commission; and the creator may transfer the remainder home. Form 5472 is not a copy of any single statement.
The IRS Instructions for Form 5472 state a $25,000 penalty per form per year for a required filing that is missing or substantially incomplete. If mixed platform and personal movements make the filing hard to isolate, start an accountant-reviewed Form 5472 package.
Which creator transactions belong on Form 5472?
Classify each movement by counterparty. AdSense, a brand, an affiliate network, and an unrelated talent agency are operating counterparties. The creator and any company the creator owns or controls are related parties.
| Creator-business movement | Usual counterparty | Usual Form 5472 treatment |
|---|---|---|
| AdSense or YouTube earnings | Unrelated platform | Revenue; not an owner transaction |
| Brand sponsorship payment | Unrelated brand or agency | Revenue; not an owner transaction |
| Affiliate-network payout | Unrelated network | Revenue settlement; not an owner transaction |
| Cash transferred to creator personally | Foreign owner | Draw, repayment, or other reportable payment |
| Creator adds cash to LLC | Foreign owner | Contribution or loan; generally reportable |
| Creator buys camera or software personally | Foreign owner funds an LLC cost | Generally reportable owner-paid expense |
| LLC reimburses creator | Foreign owner | Reportable movement back to owner |
| LLC pays creator’s foreign editing company | Foreign related party | Reportable; separate Form 5472 may be required |
The same bank transfer can have a different answer if the relationship changes. A payment to an independent editor is an operating expense. The same payment to a foreign company wholly owned by the creator is a related-party transaction.
Why are AdSense and brand-deal payments usually not reportable?
Form 5472 is a related-party information return, not a revenue return. Ordinary receipts from unrelated platforms, viewers, brands, sponsors, or affiliate networks do not become reportable simply because the money lands in a US LLC account.
The distinction follows the scope of reportable transactions in the Form 5472 instructions and Treasury Regulation §1.6038A-2: the filing focuses on monetary and specified nonmonetary dealings between the reporting entity and foreign related parties. The underlying revenue still belongs in the LLC’s books and may matter for income-tax analysis.
Keep gross earnings separate from net cash. A net AdSense deposit may reflect withholding or adjustments. A brand’s agency may remit a sponsorship fee after commission. An affiliate network may reverse returns. Those differences explain revenue reconciliation; they do not, by themselves, create an owner transaction.
How does YouTube US withholding fit beside Form 5472?
Google’s withholding process is separate from the LLC’s related-party filing. Google’s official YouTube US tax requirements page says it collects tax information and applies Chapter 3 withholding when a YouTube Partner Program creator earns royalty revenue from viewers in the United States.
For a disregarded LLC owned by a nonresident individual, the owner generally supplies the owner’s own W-8BEN rather than W-9. The IRS Instructions for Form W-8BEN say the single owner of a disregarded entity is treated as the beneficial owner of income received by the entity. The form goes to the payer, not to the IRS.
A valid treaty claim can affect withholding if the creator qualifies under a treaty applicable to the creator’s country of tax residence. Do not infer treaty eligibility from the LLC’s state, US address, or EIN. Keep the accepted tax form and the AdSense withholding record with the annual workpapers.
Withholding also does not settle the US income-tax question. Form 5472, Chapter 3 withholding, and whether creator income is effectively connected with a US trade or business are three different analyses.
Which owner-paid creator costs need attention?
Personally paid cameras, microphones, lighting, computers, editing subscriptions, studio rent, travel, and contractor bills create a movement between owner and LLC when the cost belongs to the business. The bookkeeping label determines how the two legs are tracked.
For example, a creator pays an LLC software bill on a personal card. Record whether the owner contributed the amount, lent it to the LLC, or expects reimbursement. If the LLC later repays the creator, keep both the original invoice and the reimbursement transfer. Do not record only the cash repayment and lose the expense trail.
The same discipline applies when equipment is bought personally and then transferred to the LLC. Preserve the invoice, payment evidence, date made available to the business, currency conversion support, and classification. Asset ownership and depreciation are income-tax questions outside the information-return classification.
How should a creator reconcile the year?
Use a revenue-to-owner reconciliation rather than searching the bank for transfers labelled “income.”
- Export annual AdSense earnings, payment, adjustment, and withholding records.
- Export brand invoices, affiliate statements, agency statements, LLC bank activity, and business cards.
- Reconcile gross platform and sponsorship revenue to net deposits without treating the difference as an owner payment.
- Mark unrelated platforms, brands, affiliates, agencies, editors, and software vendors as operating counterparties.
- Identify every transfer between the LLC and the creator’s personal accounts or cards.
- Identify every foreign company owned, controlled, or used by the creator and test it as a separate related party.
- Build a schedule showing date, direction, description, original currency, conversion method, and US-dollar amount.
- Map related-party categories to Form 5472 Part IV or the Part V attached statement and retain delivery proof.
This procedure produces three distinct totals: gross creator revenue, net platform deposits, and related-party movements. They should reconcile, but they should not be equal by default.
How does a YouTube worked example reach Form 5472?
Consider this illustrative example created for this guide, not a creator statistic. A foreign individual owns a disregarded US LLC.
| Annual movement | Illustrative amount | Form 5472 owner item? |
|---|---|---|
| Gross AdSense earnings | $48,000 | No; unrelated platform revenue |
| Amount retained as withholding or adjustments on statement | $1,800 | No; reconcile to platform records |
| Net AdSense deposits | $46,200 | No; settlement of platform revenue |
| Unrelated brand-deal receipts | $12,000 | No; unrelated customer revenue |
| Camera bought on creator’s personal card | $2,400 | Yes; owner-funded LLC cost |
| Cash transferred from LLC to creator | $18,000 | Yes; owner draw or other payment |
The AdSense arithmetic is $48,000 - $1,800 = $46,200 deposited. Total operating receipts in the example are $58,200: $46,200 net AdSense deposits + $12,000 brand receipts. Neither total is the simplified Form 5472 amount.
The related-party movement reviewed for Form 5472 is $20,400: $2,400 owner-paid camera + $18,000 creator transfer. Report the proper gross categories and descriptions rather than netting the owner-funded cost against the draw. Retain the platform statement to explain why gross AdSense earnings differ from bank deposits.
What do four creator scenarios look like?
Four scenarios, worked through, show where the reporting boundary moves.
Scenario 1: Full-time creator takes monthly draws
The LLC receives AdSense, affiliate, and sponsorship revenue, pays unrelated business bills, and sends a monthly amount to the creator. Revenue and third-party bills remain in the books but are not owner transactions. The monthly transfers to the creator are aggregated and classified for Form 5472.
Scenario 2: An unrelated agency represents the creator
A talent agency invoices the brand, deducts its contractual commission, and remits the balance to the LLC. The agency statement bridges gross campaign income to the deposit. The unrelated agency fee is not a related-party transaction. A later LLC transfer to the creator still is.
Scenario 3: A dormant side channel has owner-paid software
The channel produces no revenue during the year, but the creator pays editing software and cloud storage personally. Zero views or revenue does not eliminate the owner-funded LLC costs. A pre-revenue or paused creator LLC can still have a Form 5472 filing obligation.
Scenario 4: The LLC pays the creator’s home-country company
The creator also owns a foreign company that supplies editing, thumbnails, or channel management. Payments from the US LLC to that company are related-party service transactions. The foreign company is a second related party and may require its own Form 5472, separate from the individual owner’s form.
When and how does the creator LLC file?
A calendar-year foreign-owned US disregarded LLC generally files the 2025 Form 5472 package by 15 April 2026. A timely Form 7004 extends the deadline to 15 October 2026.
Part II identifies the foreign owner. Enter the FTIN on line 4b(3); if none exists, enter “None” or “N/A.” When no US identifying number appears on line 4b(1), line 4b(2) requires a reference ID, used consistently every year.
Prepare the pro forma Form 1120 and write “Foreign-owned U.S. DE” across the top. The package cannot be e-filed. Fax it at 300 DPI or higher to 855-887-7737, or mail it to the IRS Ogden PIN Unit address in the instructions. Keep the signed copy, supporting schedule, and timestamped receipt.
If a failure continues beyond 90 days after an IRS notice, §6038A(d)(2) adds $25,000 for each 30-day period or fraction. Platform tax forms and withholding do not protect the LLC from that separate penalty.
How can Form5472 Prep handle creator records?
Form5472 Prep prepares Form 5472, the pro forma Form 1120, and the Part V statement from the creator’s related-party schedule. A qualified tax accountant reviews the package, and we fax it to the IRS Ogden PIN Unit with a timestamped receipt.
Standard is $149 and ready in 5-7 business days. Express is $199 and ready in 3 business days. Each additional past tax year is +$99, and fax delivery is included. EIN service is $149 at /ein.
We are not a CPA firm and do not give tax advice. We prepare and submit the federal information return; withholding, treaty claims, effectively connected income, deductions, and home-country creator taxation require the appropriate adviser.
Frequently asked questions
Does YouTube AdSense revenue go on Form 5472?
Ordinary AdSense revenue from an unrelated platform generally does not. Reconcile gross earnings, withholding or adjustments, and net deposits, then separately report qualifying movements with the foreign owner or another related party.
Do brand sponsorships go on Form 5472?
Not when an unrelated brand pays the LLC for a campaign. A payment can become reportable if the brand or agency is a foreign related party.
Is a transfer from the LLC to the creator reportable?
Generally yes. Classify it as a draw, loan repayment, reimbursement, compensation, or another payment and retain support. Form 5472 uses gross categories, not one unexplained net transfer total.
Is personally paid camera gear reportable?
Generally yes when the owner funds an LLC asset or expense. Record whether it is a contribution, loan, or reimbursable amount, and preserve any later repayment.
Does Google withholding replace Form 5472?
No. Google’s Chapter 3 process concerns platform payments and withholding. Form 5472 separately reports qualifying transactions between the LLC and foreign related parties.
Does a creator with no revenue need Form 5472?
Possibly. Formation funding, personally paid software, equipment contributions, loans, reimbursements, or draws can create reportable transactions even when the channel earned nothing.
Does paying my foreign editing company require another form?
It can. An owner-controlled foreign editing company is a separate related party. Payments for its services may require a separate Form 5472 and supporting invoices and pricing records.
Creator revenue tells you what the business earned; owner movements tell you what Form 5472 may report. Prepare and fax the creator LLC package, or compare the treatment in Form 5472 for Stripe, PayPal, and Wise.
